Booking.com did interesting research about why people go on holiday. For
most people, the reason is clear: relaxation. 82% of the Dutch agree on
this. But when looking at the motivation for traveling, we see interesting
differences between countries.
In example, 74% of Argentinian people travel to catch up on old times. The
Chinese and Indian prefer to have a simpler lifestyle during their holidays
(77% and 79%, respectively). 61% of the Dutch want to escape from their
stressful lives.
When choosing a destination, the Dutch differ a bit from the rest of the
world. Where travellers worldwide choose their destination based on
personal safety, hygiene, beautiful nature, a tasty local kitchen and
reliable weather, the Dutch are less afraid to take a little safety risk
and firstly want to experience beautiful nature. After the beautiful
nature, they choose personal safety, hygiene, a tasty local kitchen and
interesting people and friendly locals.
Now you know what factors impact the choices of the Dutch regarding their
holiday destination, you might be wondering what accommodation they prefer.
Well, 39.8% of the Dutch prefer to stay in a hotel or motel, followed by a
summer cottage/bungalow (15.4%). 9.5% prefer to stay in an apartment.
Camping is still a popular activity for the Dutch: 9.2% travel with a
caravan or folding trailer, 4.7% travel with a tent and 2.2% travel with a
camper. 7.1% of the Dutch stay with family, friends or acquaintances during
their holidays and 6.7% choose for a private home.
